Not so serious about road safety

After the Banastarim accident that claimed three lives, a brief anti-drunk driving campaign quickly faded. Since then, numerous accidents have occurred due to poor roads and reckless driving. Instead of addressing these issues, police focus on issuing fines to two-wheelers for not wearing helmets. Most fatal accidents stem from bad roads and reckless behaviour, whether alcohol-related or not. Goa’s highways and village roads are in disrepair, impacting safety, especially for two-wheelers. Despite over 200 annual fatalities, the government remains unresponsive.
