Referring to the news in local dailies that the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication President (Note India) has written to superstar Amitabh Bachchan to withdraw from promoting Paan Masala advertisement that it’s plaguing the health of Indian Society and especially the youth.
NOTE in first place should have banned live advertisements going in public places, such as markets, near schools, besides kiosks and store owners openly displaying tobacco and paan masala products to invite public attraction. It had not nipped, and writing to Bachchan who is in his profession holds no ground.
Way back the government had initiated anti-tobacco and paan masala consumption drive against the violators of law by establishing task force and imposing hefty penalties but did not materialise any result.
NOTE and other individual groups if are really concerned and working in the interest of public health to eradicate the menace in society should appeal to the Union Health Minister to urge the issue with the Central government to ban cultivation of tobacco and paan masala manufacturing industries, then there will be no sale availability in markets.
