A video of a young tiger strolling alongside the railway tracks at Karanjal-Collem railway station has gone viral on Social Media, creating a panic among locals. The forest officials have reportedly confirmed the presence of tigers near the railway station. Recently, there was a leopard scare in Bambolim, in view of which Goa University officials had issued a notice to students to exercise caution when moving outside the campus after 6.30 pm.
It’s reasonable to assume that these animals are moving to the city because they’re being displaced by climate change and habitat destruction. They search for food and shelter which leads them to move into places where people live. If the animal’s needs aren’t met, it will move to a different habitat.
Deforestation is the reason responsible for wild animals moving into human areas. Even in the case of human beings when there is a lack of jobs and a source of income people migrate to other countries for a better life. The only way to stop wild animals from straying in the cities is for humans to stop taking over the natural habitat of these animals.
