Candolim deaths, suicide need thorough investigation

The whole of Goa has been jolted with the shocking double-murder of two young siblings in Candolim allegedly by their father on Saturday, who later reportedly committed suicide. The father was an aspiring politician and a hardcore Konkani language and culture follower and promoter. He was a well known personality and reportedly even contested the Zilla Panchayat bypolls in 2017. What has come as a shocker is that a person with a good social standing could indulge in a crime of such a magnitude and commit suicide.  The police need to do a thorough investigation in the matter. One aspect that the police could look into is whether the father is a Covid-19 survivor. It is pertinent to note that the virus that causes Covid-19 has well-documented effects on the brain, which can potentially result in psychiatric and neurologic symptoms according to medical experts. Inflammatory damage to the brain in individuals with post Covid-19 syndrome can have profound effects, possibly including suicidal thinking and behaviour. Patients who have had Covid-19 for a long period of time experience moderate-to-severe sleep disturbances, according to a recent research.
