Archbishop of Goa and Daman, Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao has rightly urged the faithful to exercise their franchise on May 7 -- the day set aside for the 2024 Parliamentary polls. Failure to vote for whatever reason will constitute a disservice to the nation. Secondly, it is important to vote not only for a good and secular candidate , but also for a political party that is secular and respects India's pluralistic culture, and conforms to the Constitutional principles of fraternity, inclusiveness, secularism, freedom to profess and practise one's religion, etc. This is important because the elected legislators are required to toe the line of their party. All in all, what the nation needs is committed individuals who dedicate their lives for the peace, harmony, and well being of its people, especially the poor, the downtrodden and outcasts of society.
