BSNL, a government undertaking has outsourced optical fibre cable network to private agencies and self operating as billing agent leaving customers at their whims. Many of these agents are themselves service providers of high speed and cable networks of other brands and not very keen to promote BSNL. Those able to succeed have been given free hand to make use of electric poles to draw overhead lines. The overhead line arrangement then existing was systematic and replaced long ago with underground cables dispensing with telephone poles. Now we are returning back to the same era in a worse way with a jungle of loose hanging wires all over with bundles / coils on almost each electric pole. The situation becomes even worse when private providers also use the same poles. This is as good as a temporary system at mercy of the Electricity Dept who so far has not objected to the use of poles. The OFC is the need of present day technology and it is high time the concerned authorities take steps to clear this whole mess and make arrangements to provide a safe, proper and permanent network system.
