Optics, hollow fanfare and hypocrisy for all to see

So the new parliament house has been inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi with cringeworthy theatrics for the camera and his faithful constituency, of course he ensured that only he was the centre of attention. .The stark exclusion of the first citizen of the country, the VP and a majority of the opposition from the inauguration points to the fact that the PM  wants an opposition-mukt Bharat with himself as the Supremo.  As the meaningless rhetoric was unspooling in the new Parliament building, Olympic medal winning wrestlers sitting a stone's throw away in protest against the depredations of a sexual predator of the ruling party were manhandled by the Delhi police and their site vacated, farmers moving towards Delhi in support of the athletes were detained at Ghazipur border, so much for ' India is the mother of democracy' tom tommed by BJP ; a burning Manipur merits no attention by the government. Of what use is a new Parliament if citizens' voices are not heard, all constitutional bodies are undermined, the opposition is suppressed from raising questions and dissent is crushed with an iron fist.
