Goa's serene landscape is being marred by two disturbing trends - rising road accidents and substance abuse, both predominantly involving youth. Substance abuse-related deaths are on the rise, affecting locals and tourists alike. Colleges here attract youth from outside who without parental supervision fall prey to drugs and then the tourism involving party clubs that double up as raves, attracting young tourists. Even locals despite parental oversight are consuming drugs. Despite raids and vigilance instances like the judiciary's decision to acquit drug kingpins and MLAs misleading the public undermine efforts to curb this menace. The other issue is driving under influence mostly the rich brats who kill people with no remorse. The judiciary's tendency to grant bail to these perpetrators mocks victims' families. Parents gift their children material comforts but fail to instill values and civic sense. What's the way forward? Authorities must take stringent action against substance abuse and driving under influence. Parents and society must prioritize value education. Let's save Goa's youth from this destructive path.
