Chief Minister Pramod Sawant while speaking to reporters last Friday has said that the PWD officials have been instructed to issue directives to all contractors to repair any roads damaged during the defect liability period at their own cost by November 30 and until the repairs are completed, the licenses of the contractors responsible for these roads would also be temporarily suspended & they would be barred from participating in any new project. Well, it looks like Sawant is trying to temporarily bring down the tempers of Goans by selectively blacklisting only contractors over the bad roads issue and telling them to repair the damage roads at their own cost in Goa. Hey, why is Sawant not using the same yardsticks against some of his own ministers, suspending them temporarily from his cabinet for also being part of the problem? I think that CM Sawant should first of all penalise some of his own ministers, PWD officials etc for habitually asking for commission from road contractors during most road repairs work and forcing them to give not good quality hot-mixed but 'ghotala-mixed' roads throughout the state.
