If one travels from Pernem to Canacona in a four-wheeler or ride a two-wheeler in this rain, he/she will notice potholes filled with water. For a two-wheeler rider, it is always difficult to figure out the depth of the pothole. Many riders have met with accidents and fractured their hands or legs. Some of the accidents have been fatal. The question here is what is the logic behind paying road tax if we cannot get to travel on decent motorable roads.
It is the bounden duty of the government department like the PWD to ensure roads are smooth. But that sounds like a distant dream given the corruption in the department. We all know the nexus between the PWD officials, contractors and politicians. If people of Goa cannot get motorable roads, then the government should stop accepting road tax.
