There is politics played over Covid-19 as will be evident from the knee-jerk reaction of the government sounding alarm bells of resurgence of BF.7 and XBB Omicron variants by claiming that they are highly transmissible and evades even vaccine-induced immunity.
The virus after working all over the world for two years has decided to work from home and countries all over the world have heaved a sigh of relief from the pandemic when all of a sudden a bombshell was dropped advising people to follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.
One of the reasons for the change of stance could be to scuttle the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress party. The government is also on the back foot by advising double vaccinated persons to take the booster or precautionary dose apparently due to piles of vaccines nearing their expiry date and the manufacturers are in a flurry of activity to develop new strains to boost immunity.
Normal life enjoyed by the masses should not be disrupted at this stage by reverting back to pre-Covid days as the country by and large has acquired herd immunity by their disciplined approach to the virus. In the 2022 FIFA World Cup parlance, a post that has gone viral stating that “till Sunday there was no Covid with a housefull stadium of thousands and Messi and team hugging everyone and come Wednesday, Covid is back. Well played China and WHO”. Let not the spectre of Covid-19 overhang the traditional festive mood of Christmas holidays.
