Privatisation of power sector a good option

Power cuts in Goa have made the life of people miserable. The major issues resulting in power cuts in any area are power shortage andlack of proper network infrastructure. Electricity being an essential servicehas become much more than a luxury now affecting every aspect of life. The lackof proper infrastructure and inadequate operation and maintenance of thenetwork are causing frequent power cuts in Goa. Frequent breakdown of atransformer indicates inadequate monitoring and maintenance. Goa does not haveits own power generation and is totally dependent on central generatingstations. People have been celebrating their festivals in darkness as powersupply is being cut frequently. The Electricity Department has failed toprovide uninterrupted power supply even during festivals. Privatisation of thepower sector would be a better option as it would lessen the burden of demandon existing sources. It would also be a good way to utilise wind and solarenergy. Moreover, it would bring great relief to the local population as therewould no longer be any frequent power cuts as natural resources would beutilised to supply power.
