The Tourism Department on Tuesday descended on the world-famous Colva beach to demolish illegal extensions of various structures. The officials said it is a High Court-monitored case and that the CRZ has passed an order and granted the Tourism Department a month to demolish all the illegal extensions of major structures. They were also directed to demolish the illegal kiosks. Unhappy with his business being affected, one person told the media that he was served an order about the demolition at night and the razing exercise began in the morning. Going on a razing spree at a shore in the middle of a tourism season without notice in advance can hugely affect the business establishments that are already reeling from Covid losses. Colva beach comes under the Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, who has been vocal about corruption and illegalities. But this time, he sought to know whether the Tourism Department will take care of the thousands of tourists that flock to the Colva beach daily with meals. Goa is dependent on tourism and such actions during the peak season can hit the backbone of the State.
