The Cuncolim Civic and Consumer forum has reportedly expressed concern about the state of roads in Cuncolim due to continued digging by the electricity department despite the approaching South West monsoon. This is the situation at several places across the state. Digging is being carried out for laying underground cables, sewerage work, laying down pipelines, etc. This digging, tarring followed by re-digging is because of the lack of coordination between the various Government departments. This causes untold misery to the general public. Many-a-times no cautionary sign-boards are put up besides no proper barricading being done which can lead to accidents. Developmental work needs to be carried out in a well-planned and structured manner. It is observed that even though the South West monsoon is knocking at our door, the Smart City work in the capital city Panaji has missed the deadline which ends today, May 31. All government departments should strictly adhere to the cut-off dates for digging activities, except in case of emergencies. A regulatory body to monitor all road digging activities by various departments needs to be in place.
