There is a huge monstrosity dwarfing the 16th-century Reis Magos fort. The photos of the same are widely being circulated and discussed on social media. How was such a development allowed by the authorities; which clearly appears to violate safeguards including buffer zones to this heritage site? In a way, I am not surprised because the current ruling government is also clearly allowing the desecration of the Old Goa religious/heritage site, with the construction of a huge house by a prominent non-Goan politician; and now it appears to me that they are using cunning ways so that the case against its demolition fails in the courts.
The State government repeatedly boasts of its priority to work in the best interests of Goans and protect our identity/heritage/state etc, but is this case not proof enough that the ruling politicians are all sold out to central politicians and are actually working as greedy real estate brokers to maximise their personal wealth/power by the slow degradation/destruction of Goa. And then Goans are being divided on various lines and fooled by various gimmicks; so that these politicians can pursue their devious plans. When will Goan “wake up and smell the coffee”?
