This is with reference to the report, "Smooth sailing for boats, diesel subsidy on cards - The Goan Everyday July 29, 2023." Surely, we all love eating fish and it is the fisherfolk who bring this fish to our dinner table. The Fisheries minister's call to the youth to take up schemes to boost fish production seems encouraging. However, it is important that suitable conditions are created for such ventures. It is therefore good to see the Fisheries Minister Nilkanth Halankar assuring the people that the subsidy scheme to fishing trawlers would be relaunched.
In the meanwhile, there are cities like Mumbai where the fishing industry is finding it difficult to continue fishing on account of mindless projects like the coastal road which entails reclamation, hitting the fisherfolk below the belt.
