The presumption of safety has been belied as after the installation of rumblers at Dandeavaddo, Chinchinim with five serious accidents and one fatal occurring at the site in matter of months compared to statistics of accidents over the years.
Two-wheeler riders are forced to slowdown as a result of which speeding 4 wheelers have knocked them down in all cases.
Unfortunately, the Zebra crossing, the most crucial requirement, has not been restored. At the public meeting it was agreed that widening of the junction in the acquired land would obviate the blind spot.
The accidents at the site which were rare are now frequent in short period after the rumblers had been installed. The PWD, RTO, Traffic cell etc seem to be silent and not responding to inquirys and directions of the Collector.
Numerous representations to all authorities, including the MLA responsible have fallen on deaf ears. The ideal solution would be to remove the rumblers or install traffic signals at the junction to tackle the rising number of accidents.
