Restore khazan lands to boost productivity

Restoring khazan lands impacted by mangroves and broken bundhs, promoting organic and natural farming and development of a seed village where farmers produce seeds for a range of crops are the keys to revitalising Goa's agricultural yield which has reduced drastically over the past decade. Goa has @ 18,000 hectares of cultivable khazan lands which earlier produced rice, vegetables and fish but is now adversely affected by salinity. Moreover 60% of the bundhs are damaged with the government not making any efforts to restore the irrigation system, maybe this is being done deliberately so that at a later date khazan lands can be opened up to construction activities under the guise of development as is being done for the Comunidade lands. The khazan lands are the lifeblood of villages and should be used to boost community farming , pending tenancy rights issues should also be concurrently resolved. Development of low cost water harvesting structures, adoption of improved crop varieties,  mechanization to tackle labour shortage and branding of agro products is the need of the hour if Goa is to regain its place in the top five states based on agricultural yield per hectare.
