The Goa Special Status demand/movement (to preserve scarce land and identity) had gained steam during the term of Digambar Kamat as the CM). Unfortunately, that government did nothing in this regard.
The Special Status movement got further momentum due to late Manohar Parrikar during the 2011-12 Assembly polls with the BJP state and central leadership giving strong indications that Goa could get a Special Status should the BJP be in power at the State and central level. That was over a decade ago and now with the BJP in power at both places nothing has happened. This was certainly a big disappointment and let down for Goa and Goans.
I think it is high time for like-minded Goans irrespective of political ideologies to come together and revive this demand for Special Status. Real estate complexes and land buying spree is at an all-time high in Goa. I do not believe that the Goan politicians will properly pursue this as for some strange reason they don’t have an interest in Goa’s identity.
