This is with reference to the report 'MLA calls for action on cables of telecom, internet operators - The Goan Everyday - July 16, 2024'. This issue of hanging cables of telecom and intercom operators is indeed a serious issue. The Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has rightly raised concern, as besides being a safety hazard it also spoils the aesthetics of the area. Department poles and trees are not meant to hold such cables. The authorities must come up with a policy to route all such cables through ducts. One need not go for study tours abroad to understand this simple technique. It's a matter of framing such policies and strictly implementing them. And, the situation in Mumbai is very much the same. One will find internet cables hanging over any pole or tree in its route. Moreover, one will also find discarded cables hanging haphazardly or strewn all over the roads thereby posing the risk of tripping over the cables and seriously injuring oneself. It's time the authorities wake up and take notice.
