Grateful to Velim MLA Cruz Silva for expeditiously attending to the need hanging over last 20 years. The rumblers at the site are not respected by motorists and proved absolutely useless from safety standpoint. The site and stretch has been scene of numerous fatal accidents. The attempts to install signals did not materialise. The cameras would be undisputable proof and heavy fines envisaged serve as a better deterrent.
The earlier attempt for speed breakers were stalled by vested interests. Most vehicles including two wheelers zoom past speedily ignoring the rumblers. Only buses, container trucks slow down when some cautious drivers slow down the vehicles behind are forced to but others overtake speedily.
If the traffic is not slowed for pedestrians to cross at the junction of three villages of Mingfoll, Dandeavaddo and Sarzora it serves no useful purpose.
It was suggested that since the junction is a blind spot, minimum acquired, besides recently notices are being issued hence available place be utilised for widening and expansion. Further by encroachment and illegal boundary walls the access is curtailed. The immediate benefit is the rattling nuisance of sound to residents by speeding vehicles ignoring the rumblers. Well the rumblers at Sirlim on NH66, where the risks are much less serve a better purpose of slowing the vehicular traffic. The festering problem continues to haunt the residents with an totally ineffective solution.
