The recent murders and rapes taking place in Goa and especially the mysterious death of a British women proves that women are not safe in Goa. In the country too where recently in Uttar Pradesh BHU IIT female student was gang raped and the accused was arrested only after two months as he was a worker of a political party is disheartening. Goa was a considered a safe heaven for locals and tourists but it is not the case anymore. The first and the main cause of criminals to commit such ghastly crimes is the way women are portrayed as sex symbols by advertising agencies, TV advertisements and movies and also 'dirty' pictures pasted in bars and restaurants in Goa. The government must do something to ban such pictures. Secondly the local people should report the details of outsiders working in area to the nearest police station so that criminals don't go scot free after committing such ghastly crimes. Police should stop protecting criminals and instead book them as early as possible and the legislature should enact stringent laws for those who commit rape and murder.
