Saligao-Parra road stretch has become an accident-prone zone

I would like to highlight the poor condition of the Saligao-Parra road (locally called the ‘madhanim’ road), which has now become an accident-prone stretch. Sadly, two lives were lost here on Wednesday night. While the road is partly hotmixed when coming from Parra, the middle section till just before the house of the late Dr Wilfred D’Souza is full of potholes, making it dangerous for commuters. The situation is worse at night due to non-functional streetlights. This stretch has also become a spot for speeding bikes and cars, increasing the risk for both pedestrians and drivers.

Adding to the problem, some restaurants have encroached on the road by using it for parking. This has narrowed the already congested road, making it difficult for people to walk safely, especially in the evenings and at night. After the recent tragedy, urgent steps must be taken. I request the authorities to post police on this stretch both during the day and night to enforce traffic rules. The road needs immediate repair and regular upkeep, and the streetlights must be fixed.

It is time we act before more lives are lost. I hope the concerned authorities will treat this as a priority and work towards making our roads safe and usable for all.
