There are old cars that have been well cared for, are comfortable, in excellent condition, carefully driven, and sparingly used by owners or senior citizens, with no maintenance issues and within PUC parameters. On the other hand, there may be new vehicles that are ready to be scrapped.
The manufacturers have no schemes for those who do not want to exchange their vehicles for new ones, and the cumbersome process of de-registering a vehicle to sell it to a scrap dealer for someone who cannot afford to run or purchase a new vehicle highlights a government that lacks consideration for the common man.
As new vehicles and EVs roll out, there is a great need for the government to introduce a well-thought-out policy and rules, developed after consultation with all stakeholders, to streamline the process for all involved”from manufacturers to dealers, insurers, customers, RTO, and licensed scrap dealers to the recycling of scrap. It is hoped that the authorities will recognise the need to address this matter urgently.
