The Serendipity Arts Festival (SAF) presently on in Panaji is India's biggest and best arts festival and probably one of the best in the world. Citizens can enjoy world-class performances by artists in the fields of music, dance, theatre, experimental installation, puppetry, photography, choreography, painting and other arts. Besides many interactive sessions with artisans are held at various picturesque venues along the Mandovi, the local food courts are also a major draw.
A majority of the events are free which does not put a strain on the common man's budget. The festival is very well organised in coordination with the Goa government by the Hero and Jindal industrial houses. Friday evening we enjoyed a stellar music concert at the Nagali Hills arena featuring the legendary Ustad Zakir Hussain on the tabla, Ranjit Barot on drums, Zubin Balaporia on keyboards and Rakesh Chaurasia playing the flute. It is very rare that you have such great artists performing in our tiny State; it was good to see Goans turn out in large numbers for the event. It was also heartening to note that adequate parking and garbage disposal arrangements had been made at the venue. Kudos to the government too this time around as well as the sponsors for making the SAF a grand success.
