Finally, the State Expert Committee head, the GMC Dean, disclosed the results of a seropositivity survey conducted by the GMC. The Dean says that 70 per cent in the age group 1- 18 years got infected and healed on their own. In August, Prudent reported that 66.6 per cent in the age group 5-17 years had antibodies in a survey conducted by the IDSP (Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme) of Goa DHS. So, we have two surveys. The GMC Dean admits that only a small sample was studied. Note that Mumbai conducted five serosurveys. In the 4th one in August, it found antibodies in only 51 per cent in the age group 6-18 years. We know the level of infections there, especially in the compromised slum areas. We need to validate the data and methods used.
