Recently, a jackfruit tree near the BPCL petroleum outlet in Siolim was mercilessly uprooted using a JCB, damaging the PWD water pipeline in the process. For the past three days, treated water has been overflowing into the drain, creating a stagnant water pond.
It is shocking how negligent the PWD has been. This pipeline should have been repaired on a priority basis to prevent the wastage of treated water, which comes at the expense of taxpayers’ money. How can the government urge water consumers to save water when repairing damaged pipelines is not treated as a priority?
The PWD must urgently repair the damaged pipeline. With the MDR10 road widening project underway, further damage to pipelines is inevitable. The department must act immediately to prevent additional wastage and ensure that their own actions align with the call to conserve water. Saving water should begin with prompt and responsible action from the authorities themselves.
