It’s a well known fact that the staple food of Goans is fish curry and rice. Without having this their day is never done. Goa is blessed with a wide variety of different species and some rare others are more common. Most of the fish are rich in omega-3 which have anti cancer properties good for digestion and antioxidants well known in the world of medicine.
Salmons, sardines, mackrels, snappers, kingfish, mullets, etc are rich source of omega-3 which are good for the heart. Some are seasonal and others we get throughout the year. Fish which come from other states due to the long hours of traveling tend to get spoilt which then needs refrigeration or sometimes they treated with preservatives to last the journey.
These can cause adverse effects on the health of a person leading to chronic diseases which should be avoided in its entirety. People have adopted fishing as pastime and angling with a full set of gear like hook,sinker, and line as a hobby or and provides for food.
These equipment have come under the scanner of the fishing authorities and have become mandatory to be registered failing which attracts a penalty in money or confiscation of equipment. Deep sea fishing involves a net, trawler petrol for motorised vessels and manpower to substantiate a formidable catch.
Fish are a boon and a tremendous source of medicinal properties , harnessed by humans since origins and civilizations down the ages, should be rightfully nurtured and preserved for posterity in whatever capacity we can enhance the survival of species.
