Does Goa need a private medical college? The resounding answer is no. Hospicio - a hospital built during the Portuguese era was an identity for health care for the people of Salcete. After several years and positive thinking of our political masters Hospicio was upgraded to South District Hospital “ which now looks beyond healthcare and caters to all health problems for the people of Salcete. For a span of years, the Health Minister has been desperately planning for a medical college at South Goa District Hospital. The Health Minister and the Chief Minister should visit Karnataka and Maharashtra to interfuse and interlock with medical ideology. The Government should abolish NEET, as has been done in some states and increase the number of medical seats. Instead of building a cancer hospital and spending crores of rupees, the same Hospicio can be converted into a cancer hospital and money spent on latest equipment - to treat cancer. Our nursing college at Bambolim, can be upgraded and thus provide more seats for our Goans. We should not sell Goa to non-Goans in the professional field as we have done with industry.
