Apropos your news report highlighting the action taken by the alert villagers in forcing the local panchayat to issue a stop work order on the multi-dwelling project proposed in Chandor, it is heartening and encouraging to know that Goans from other villages joined the locals from Chandor-Guirdolim to display peoples power. As usual, there has been mischief in the passing of this project on the sly and now all the authorities have been caught on the back foot. There have been a couple of other similar projects in these two villages that have “passed’ by the local and the TCP authorities, by keeping the villagers in the dark. Chandor-Guirdolim have seen quite a handful of projects mushrooming, while the local villagers are still struggling to get proper facilities and infrastructure from the government. Goans if you do not rise to oppose this project along with the villagers of Chandor, very soon you will find such projects mushrooming in every village in Goa, thereby destroying the ethos and cultural fabric of every village in Goa. Join the fight to save Goa from these greedy builders, government 'babus' and irresponsible elected local representatives from this type of “destructive development”.
