Stop NH-17 expansion at Dandeavaddo

The NHAI move to convert part of the district road at Dandeavado, Chinchinim has been giving sleepless nights to the residents in the village.

Initially, the land was acquired for two lanes, which is completed. Now there is a further proposal for 4 lanes and enhanced land acquisition will affect the locals whose land and houses will be acquired.

There have been studied representations by various bodies and massive campaigns to stop this disastrous exercise. An alternative bypass plan has also been submitted, resurveyed with plans that will not entail displacement and also provide scope for future expansion.

The residents have been peacefully protesting further damage to their ancestral houses. As it is crossing over to other side of the road for agricultural activities and cattle grazing is a nightmare with deadly accidents a common occurrence.

Late CM Manohar Parikar at a special meeting had asked authorities to change the route. The residents have also placed their grievances to the Congress, BJP and even AAP has recently felt the pulse and need to seriously suggest alternatives.

The NHAI planning team is seized of the matter, but their secrecy is not understandable about the exact alignment.

Recent reports indicate that authorities are hell-bent on the same route throwing to winds the sentiments and reasonable alternatives.

It appears that residents will once again be forced to resort to come on the roads to protect their ancestral houses.
