Prime Minister Narendra Modi was once again heard accusing the country’s first PM, late Pandit Nehru, for deliberately delaying the liberation of Goa to somehow portray him as a villain If liberation was really meant to be a boon (as per Modi’s version) then how come so many Goans over the years have left the state for greener pastures elsewhere?
Well, as per historical facts, Goa was under the control of António de Oliveira Salazar, a Portuguese dictator. Nehru must have rightly refused to liberate the state in 1947 and waited cautiously to free Goa (which he successfully did in 1961) without causing bloodshed or destruction.
I therefore personally feel that the business-minded Central BJP leaders should henceforth stop unnecessarily targeting Nehru all the time to distract Goans from their own failures.
