In the last few weeks, the State has got a breather from the dreaded virus with cases decreasing and the number of deaths declining.
Although there are people still testing positive and one or two deaths being reported on a daily basis, the situation is not frightful as it was at the peak of the second wave when the highest death count was reported at 74.
Of late one can see a steady flow of tourists trickling in. Yes, these tourists are needed to kick-start the season.
But the government cannot do this at the cost of the Goans at large. Care should be taken that the same mistakes that were committed during the second wave are not repeated.
It would be in the fitness of things to keep a strict check at our borders and allow only those tourists with negative certificate or those who are fully vaccinated.
The States of Karnataka and Kerala are already showing an increase in the number of Covid cases. Our government must be extremely careful and address the situation in view of the impending third wave.
