Teachers' salaries are a necessary expenditure

The Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been  thundering about declining standards in private schools. The government institutions are closing with dwindling strength. The high standards  and demands are prerogative of private institutions. The Govt does not sanction permanent posts while permitting promotions in teaching and non teaching posts and the resultant vacancies are kept in abeyance. The daily teaching exercise cannot be postponed for another day The subject teachers with their specific workload cannot be Jack of all trades to substitute for non-sanctioned posts. It is not just one or two in a school . DSE has hundreds of them in all schools put together.

Suggestions to employ daily wages teachers at Rs 150 per day  is ludicrous  and smacks of arrogant  attitudes. The daily wages of unskilled workers for about 5 hours is hovering over Rs 500.  Even after 6 months the sanctioned pension is not being credited. The Govt is toying over the idea of extension of retirement age to 62 years to tide over terminal settlement of dues. The contract  basis of appointment does not motivate teachers to work to full potential  and is poor measure to curtail expenditure. The salaries of contract, temporary  teachers are being paid after  the end of the academic year. The govt is exploiting avaiable,  glut of large pool of  highly educated  graduates trained too. It is the students who are deprived of their daily instructions by  stop-gap arrangements which is not conducive in the field of Education.

People  are still wondering what has happened to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's assurances of bringing in…
