This is with reference to the editorial "Engagement of society crucial in fight against dengue, malaria - The Goan Everyday - July 3, 2024." That was an interesting and insightful editorial on the fight against diseases like dengue & malaria, especially during the monsoon season. The authorities seemed to have found the link between such diseases to the increased construction activities going on at several locations like Panaji, etc. Yes, that may be true and all care must be taken to prevent such diseases from spreading. This, however cannot be done only by the authorities, involving society is necessary. Your editorial rightly points out, awareness and educating people are crucial in the fight against diseases like dengue. In Mumbai too, there is increased construction activity on account of a large number of housing societies going in for redevelopment. The fight against diseases is not a one-way street. The civic authorities too must take all measures to ensure that there its no stagnant water in public places. Cooperation between the authorities and the citizens is crucial to ensure the success of any endeavour.
