It is great news that our CM has revealed that his government has started implementing the recommendations of the task force formed to tackle the predicted third Covid wave.
The job of the task force is one of responsibility and must be viewed as such by the members.
Surely the prime objectives should be to ensure no deaths from lack of care and medicines. The provision of maximum care at all stages of infection even post cure.
Objectives must not be: to free up beds, rationing of oxygen, leaving procurement to inefficient systems or people, hiding mistakes from the public.
The GMC Dean disclosed before the HC that oxygen was rationed by operating at low flow levels because of shortage. Recently a lady was discharged after being cured from Covid. Her breathing was still laboured, and the family was told it would soon improve. Was the discharge done to meet an objective of freeing up beds?
Even those cured in 2020 have been facing breathing problems needing oxygen use for a proper quality of life. The task force must have a list of all such people and ensure they get the same.
The task force, comprising entirely of doctors, will not have any knowledge of problem solving, creating implementation plans, tracking, corrections etc. So the District Collectors and experts in the field need to guide them.
The Task Force must demand what is required. The objectives must be met. Favouritism, including political, must be promptly disclosed.
