This is in reference to “Expert panel says okay to restart classes for Std 1-8” (The Goan Everyday 13-11-2021).
Parents of young children are relieved at this news. Dr Shekar Salkar and the expert committee deserve kudos for advocating the need to restart schools.
What children can grasp from their teachers in class cannot replicate the online model of learning. Online class was just a stop-gap arrangement. Now that majority of Goans are vaccinated and showing willingness to restart normal life, it is only a matter of time that the doors of schools are thrown open.
Our young children belong inside the four walls of their classrooms under the gaze of teachers. They are our future. For our future to be stronger, learning is a must.
It is indeed heartening to note that the empty classrooms will once again be full of innocent children. And that the chants of A for Apple and B for Ball will begin to reverberate across neighbourhoods is just what the doctor prescribed. Viva childhood!
