On many occasions we come across instances wherein private vehicles found halted/parked on the road are taken to task by the officials of Road Transport Office and the Traffic department. We seldom notice government vehicles being fined for overlooking such rules. In Ponda, a pickup owned by the Electricity department is often being parked on the road either near the main post office or opposite the Ponda Police Station. Further a bus owned by the Goa Engineering College (at Farmagudi) was recently found halted on the narrow road adjacent to the petrol pump at old bus stand (also in Ponda) for alighting college students. Ultimately it caused inconvenience to fellow travellers and pedestrians as well. The higher officials at the RTO office and the Traffic department should take a note of above undesirable practice followed by the government vehicles from time to time and issue challans to such vehicles almost in lines with the procedure followed with private vehicles. Such a step would definitely assure discipline among drivers of government vehicles.
