Vladimir Putin thought that it will be a cakewalk if he attacks Ukraine, but he was wrong. It is time for Ukraine and Russia to come to the negotiation table and come out with concrete measures for peace and tranquillity in the region.
It is also sad to know that Russia’s attack on Ukraine has triggered a refugee crisis in Europe. This could have been avoided. Though it was NATO’s plan for expansion that angered Putin, he could have warned Ukraine instead of going for an all-out war. War only causes misery on both sides and is never a solution.
I think India should continue to be part of the peace process. Initially, I had a feeling that our closeness to Russia upset Ukraine, but it seems that the latter is satisfied with India’s role in providing relief and urging the former to end the war. This is the only thing that India can do in the present circumstances.
