Water pollution is dangerous for Goans

Water pollution occurs when harmful substances contaminate rivers, lakes, and groundwater, making water unsafe for people and aquatic life. Globally, over 80% of wastewater flows untreated into the environment, spreading diseases like cholera and typhoid.

Goa’s key rivers ” Mandovi, Zuari, and Sal ” are among India’s most polluted. Untreated sewage, mining waste, coal handling, dredging, plastic dumping, and casino discharge have caused severe contamination. Studies show high faecal bacteria and microplastics in these rivers, threatening ecosystems and livelihoods.

Goans must reduce plastic use and dispose of waste responsibly to protect their water sources.

NGOs fined for cases on government irregularities

As a regular follower of news and court cases in Goa, I have noticed a troubling pattern. Many cases filed by reputed NGOs against government corruption, irregularities and environmental destruction are being dismissed by certain judges. In some instances, heavy fines are even imposed on the NGOs themselves.I am not a legal expert to comment on whether these judgements are correct.
