The Goa Tourism Department has notified Miramar and Keri beaches for watersports activities. Both the beaches would have boat rides and dolphin sighting trips. Only at Keri jet ski rides, winch parasailing, inflatable banana and bump rides, island trips, kayaking and stand-up surf boats will be permitted. Beach parasailing is disallowed due to the rocky nature of the beach. The boats need to carry life jackets, fire extinguishers and first aid boxes. A single window system for all operators would be set up to sell tickets.
Miramar beach, one of the last beautiful bastions in Panaji, has finally fallen to the temptation of the tourism industry. Most people thought that Miramar would be protected as it is one of the city-based beaches but with the advent of water-sports the charm would be lost. The fish catch along the Caranzalem beach up till Cabo Raj Niwas will be severely affected due to the noise and fuel pollutions that can be expected once the boat rides commence. Presently the beach is flooded with people, vehicles are parked haphazardly around the Miramar turnabout, tourists jay walk and there are no traffic signals. Once watersports start at the Miramar beach then the place would be a sea of humans, litters all around, fisticuffs etc.
