Weather ideal for breeding of mosquitoes

In more bad news as far as the weather is concerned, the private weather agency, Skymet, has said that the monsoon in India will remain weak until the first week of July. According to the report cyclone Biparjoy has delayed the monsoon onset over Kerala and is further obstructing the advance of the monsoon in other parts of the country. Over the past few days Goa has been witnessing intermittent rainfall. The short periods of rains, is followed by extended periods of dry spell. The main time when mosquito populations boom is the rains followed by a dry spell which is conducive to the breeding of disease-carrying mosquitoes, in particular Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads dengue. While continuous rain washes away stagnant puddles, the humid, sunny weather that follows the rains creates ideal breeding conditions for the mosquitoes.  As the temperature increases so does the mosquito's metabolism which leads to increased activity, faster development and higher survival rates. All precautions need to be taken to stop the breeding of mosquitoes in the coming days by fogging and preventing stagnation of water.
