This refers to the editorial “PM’s Modi minority outreach in God’s own country” (April 26), the BJP has waited long to be recognised by the people of Kerala. PM Narendra Modi’s recent two days in Kerala appears to have set the saffron party in full motion to emerge electorally relevant in the Left-ruled state. Interestingly, BJP’s first Easter gift came three days ahead of the feast when Anil K. Antony, son of Congress leader and former Union Minister A.K. Antony surprised everyone by joining the BJP. A shot in the arm has come from PM Modi’s Easter visit to the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi, which was followed by a meeting with top heads of the Syro-Malabar Church. Minorities make up nearly half of Kerala’s population with Muslims comprising 26% of the population and Christians numbering around 18%. Christians look the best bet for the BJP if it has to start winning in Kerala. As the Lok Sabha election is a year away and Kerala Assembly election due in May 2026, only time will tell whether Kerala will swing the election in BJP’s favour.
