The BJP’s focus in Goa appears to be on retaining power, raising questions about its priorities. Its record on governance has faced criticism over allegations of corruption, scams, environmental damage and concerns over land sales and conversions. Against this backdrop, the proposed anti-conversion law appears unnecessary, particularly in the absence of major instances warranting such legislation. The issue could, however, help consolidate the BJP’s traditional support base ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, especially with a divided Opposition. Voters should assess all parties on issues that affect their daily lives, including jobs, infrastructure, the environment, governance and the rising cost of living.
