For over three decades, Chinchinim has waited for a modern Market Complex and Panchayat house. During the four terms of Eng Rodrigues, land was acquired and earmarked specifically for this purpose. Yet, neither during his tenure nor under the two MLAs who succeeded him has the project moved beyond paper. The objections now being raised should not be allowed to derail a long-awaited public necessity. If land is needed for other worthwhile projects, fresh acquisition can always be undertaken. The land already reserved for the Market Complex must be used for the purpose for which it was acquired. Projects such as solar lighting and a futsal ground may be useful, but they cannot take precedence over essential civic infrastructure. Visible, publicity-oriented works should not overshadow the pressing needs of the village. Development must be guided by priorities, not by photo opportunities. Election after election, promises to build the Market Complex have been repeated, only to be forgotten once the ballots are counted. Chinchinim's residents deserve better. The time for assurances is over. Let the long-pending Market Complex and Panchayat House finally become a reality.
