The water situation in many parts of the country is grim, with El Niño adding to the concern. Saving water is everyone’s responsibility, and every drop counts. A simple self-audit of our daily water consumption can make a difference. Turn off the tap while shaving and install push-button flush systems to reduce water wastage. Senior citizens who wake up at night to urinate can avoid flushing every time, provided hygiene is maintained. Let us remember that traditional bathing uses less water than prolonged showers. Wash your car only when necessary, not merely because you pay a monthly fee. Water potted plants carefully to avoid drenching your downstairs neighbours. When visitors arrive, ask if they need water before serving it automatically. Use washing machines efficiently and run them with full loads whenever possible. Finally, while the watchman may be responsible for filling the overhead tank, preventing overflow is everyone’s duty. Small changes in our daily habits can conserve precious water. Let us act responsibly before scarcity becomes a crisis.
