Garbage crisis demands collective action

Garbage management has always been a mammoth task for the authorities. It’s mind-blowing to note the amount of garbage and waste we citizens generate day in and day out, especially with the onset of companies like Swiggy, Zomato, etc., which deliver goods round the clock. All dumping sites are steadily reaching saturation point. Therefore, the government has taken the right step in making waste management more scientific, efficient and environmentally sustainable. In cities like Mumbai too, the civic authorities are giving a big push to composting. However, while the authorities target co-operative housing societies, they also need to discipline the slums, as they generate a huge amount of garbage.
