Colvale jail, meant to be a place of punishment and reform, has shockingly transformed into a luxury retreat for criminals in Goa. Reports reveal a disturbing reality: Prisoners enjoy amenities like televisions in special cells, high-quality food such as tandoori, fried rice, and fish, and even access to mobile phones and cigarettes. This is not justice—it’s a blatant mockery of the penal system. The jail functions more like a “nasha house,” where criminals pay staff to enjoy privileges, exposing a network of corruption involving jail officials and politicians. These criminals, often backed by muscle power, support certain politicians during elections, ensuring their mutual benefit. Instead of strict security, greed and collusion have turned the system into a playground for the powerful. Such luxurious treatment only emboldens criminals to continue their illegal activities, leaving ordinary citizens disillusioned and fearful. When punishment becomes privilege, justice becomes a distant dream, even for those who seek it through the courts. Goa’s authorities must urgently investigate and reform Colvale jail, ensuring it serves its true purpose. The people of Goa deserve a justice system free from corruption and impunity.
