A report by the 'Goa State Pollution Control Board' has revealed that faecal coliform contamination in the Mandovi river has consistently exceeded prescribed limits at several monitoring locations over the past decade.According to the study, exceedance levels remained above 81% in most years and hit 96% during 2026 across 8 monitoring stations. The sources of pollution identified

include untreated or partially treated sewage discharge, effluents from industries, sewage from casino vessels, inflow from tributaries and septic tank leakages. The river's water quality and environmental health have never been so bad in it's entire history. The government hasn't taken any measures to alleviate the situation. On the contrary the sarkar is hellbent on worsening the state of affairs by waiting to surreptitiously introduce the 'mother of all floating casinos' in the Mandovi. Imagine the additional faecal discharge in the river waters by a 2,000 capacity vessel. The river is just a stinking sewer now.
