Pharmacies should stock ayurvedic medicines

The Indian Red Cross Society’s Goa State Branch will launch an Ayurveda Out Patient Department (OPD) at its Panaji office on November 6, a welcome initiative that deserves appreciation. With growing interest in traditional medicine, this will strengthen Ayurveda’s presence in Goa’s healthcare system. Its holistic approach, preventive care and emphasis on diet and lifestyle make it a valuable part of India’s medical tradition. Goa already has Ayurveda OPDs in government hospitals and healthcare centres, private clinics and Ayurveda colleges. The government should encourage private pharmacies to stock approved Ayurvedic medicines, while ensuring quality, genuine products and guidance from qualified practitioners. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, an Ayurvedic doctor, has championed this initiative, giving Ayurveda much-needed impetus. Integrating it with modern medicine will widen patient choice and strengthen holistic healthcare in Goa.
